Ask any bride who's been married 5 mins to 50 years about their wedding and they will most likely use the phrase "If I had to do it again, I would do everything differently". Given time, and some hindsight, the most haenous bridezilla can become a calm rational being and reflect on her wedding day with some perspective.
So what do new brides have to learned from this? Well, I have asked brides to share some insight into their special day... and how things would change if they were getting married today, in the hope that we can learn more about what really matters when it comes to a wedding.
THE COST
It seems the only Brides who don't mention this as a concern when conducting a wedding post-mortem are the brides that had the majority of money contributed from elsewhere in the family.
"Let's just say I still experience heart palpitations and muscle spasms when I think of the money spent on our wedding" Siobhan from Perth comments. With some considerable cash coming from folks and inlaws as well Siobhan isn't ashamed to admit she would most likely spend the same again if she got the chance "our wedding rocked!"
Things have certainly changed since Louise from Newcastle was married 20 years ago "It cost me and fiance just the drinks tab $240 but if we had the ceremony today it would probably cost a lot more!!"
With the average wedding in the Hunter and Newcastle region around $33,000 it is no wonder that Brides sometimes reflect and regret.
“(Our wedding) cost about $9.000 which could of brought 3/4 of a block or a small house!!!!!! was worth it..? At the time yes, now I could of spend the money more wisely”
In the same breathe Louise from Port Dennison recommends you “Go with what's important at the time and have no regrets!!!!”
Personally, as the last of four daughters to get married, I'm not surprised my parents kept suggesting a ladder and Vegas as the perfect wedding...
