1. Listen to your boutiques advice: Listen if they suggest certain gowns or, they discourage you trying on a dress that they know is too small (read: They’ve seen it before!). Also on the contrary let them know if you’re not comfortable coming out of the dressing room in a certain gown or trying on a certain dress they’ve suggested.
2. Bring your nearest and dearest: It’s not always a good idea to bring your entire bridal party to your fittings. Bring your closest gal pals or your even just your mom (like I did) people who know you well and who you’re comfortable around.
3. Do your research: If you have a bridal boutique in mind it’s never a bad idea to call ahead first and describe yourself and your vision, and ask questions.
4. Beware the sample size: Keep in mind when going shopping that sample sizes are small. It’s not you, it’s the dress. If it doesn’t fit, don’t fret: many of the designers listed above can be purchased in a larger (or smaller size). There’s also all sorts of magic contraptions and clips to pull and tuck you in a gown that’s too small (a sample size) to give you a vision for what you’re dress will look like. Not only that, alterations will ensure your dress fits perfectly on your wedding day.
5. Be prepared to look a little further: (advice we would give any bride, curvy or not), like we mentioned already many boutiques stock small sample sizes so you may have to try a few before you find the one. But don't give up, there is a beautiful wedding dress out there for everyone!
