The Dress
When planning a wedding, there is nothing as important to the bride as the wedding dress. It usually demands hours of frantic searching through bridal shops, or endless fittings combined with a lot of emotional support from family and friends.
Now when choosing a wedding gown, there are a lot of things to consider. First, consider the time of year when you will have your wedding. Make sure that the material is not too heavy or you will be sweating in the heat of summer or too thin that you will be freezing in winter. Next, consider your budget.
You have to make a budget for the dress and stick to it. Or else you might end up compromising on other aspects of your wedding. Last, take your personality and body type into account. You do not want to wear a decidedly sexy dress if you're conservative or wear something really shiny if you're a bit more curvaceous than most.
Fabric Choices
The fabric of the dress determines on how the dress will look like. Different fabrics, even if the design is the same, will make different dresses. The way the gown folds and falls on your body will be different, so you make an entirely new silhouette. A bride though has many fabrics to choose from nowadays that will fit her every requirement. Be it for price or design concerns, there is usually the right fabric, for the right gown.
Silk or satin is the most preferred fabric for wedding dresses. Not only does it look elegant, it also feels good to wear it. You do not have to worry about the fabric being too scratchy or too heavy, you will feel fresh and beautiful throughout the day. The only drawback to silk is it's price. It's an all natural fabric that comes from silkworm cocoons. There are other alternatives to silk though, you can use synthetic fibers like Rayon.
Lace is also an excellent choice for wedding dresses, it is romantic and not too heavy. It's breathable, and there are new designs that are not as ornate and/or heavy as before. It's also fairly affordable. The downside for this fabric, is you have to be very careful when wearing it since it has the tendency to snag and you do not want a wardrobe malfunction on your big day, right?
You can also use sheer fabrics for your wedding gown like chiffon, tulle and organza. These fabrics can also be made into the most romantic wedding dresses since they have the tendency to make you look ethereal. They look elegant and can be layered for a full-bodied effect. Unfortunately, they are the most delicate of all the choices since they tend to fray and snag as well. So be careful.
Lastly, there's polyester. It is the most affordable of the all the fabrics. It is easy to wear, and you do not have to worry about wrinkling the fabric. It's drawback is that is that it is heavy and not particularly comfortable to wear, especially in warmer months.
So, the best rule of thumb in choosing wedding dresses is to find which fabric works best for your body type and budget. Besides that, you might want to consider choosing a diamond jewelry that goes well with the dress too. After you have figured that out, there are a lot of options that you can choose from.
