Bahamas Ministry of Tourism Shares Results of Destination Wedding Survey

According to a recent destination wedding survey by the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, not only are 78% of Americans more likely to accept invitations to a destination wedding but 56% of them consider it a better value than traditional wedding receptions. 


The destination wedding survey which sampled some 1,014 adults over the age of 18 living in the continental United State by telephone between January 12th and January 15th 2012, give comfort to those brides who may be considering a destination wedding but unsure of how their family and friends will respond.


Here is more of what the Ministry of Tourism destination wedding survey revealed:

  • 45% of respondents prefer to attend a destination wedding in a tropical beach setting. 
  • 53% of respondents are willing to travel up to five hours to attends a destination wedding
  • 25% will spend $1,000 or more to attend a destination wedding. 
  • 73% required between one and three months advance notice.  
  • 25% are more likely to go on a diet before attending a destination wedding than a traditional wedding.      
  • 68% of respondents say they are more inclined to be more outgoing and get to know other guests at a destination wedding.
  • 21% of respondents admitted to partying harder at a destination wedding
  • 21% say they are more likely to get friendly with a bridesmaid, groomsman or other guest than they are at a traditional wedding.
