Aspiring Wedding Planners, Meet your Angel!

Every blade of grass has its own angel that bends over and whispers ‘grow, grow’ ~The Talmud

Nope, this isn’t Monday Musing on the wrong day. This quote rests on my frig door, reminding me everyday what I want and what I want to be to others in this world. It’s precious to me because one of my coaching clients sent it to me as an unexpected gift. We clicked and over time I helped her grow more confident as a businessperson and fall back in love with her business. Gosh, we laughed a lot.

It amazes me that she found the perfect magnet for me. I so believe in angels who come into your life at just the right time. I’ve had more than my fair share of personal and professional angels. So I’m always on the lookout for ways to give back. I can’t think of a better way to honor the angels who mentored me than to introduce you to one in the wedding community, Mary Dann-McNamee.

Mary, one of the most sought-after planners in Southern California, heads a talented team of wedding and event coordinators who design special events for Hollywood’s elite. You may know Mary from one of my favorite shows, “Whose Wedding Is It Anyway”. Remember the Mary Dann martini? ;)

Mary came across on TV as a friendly professional who really knew how to negotiate. I remember one episode where she was speeding down the highway while persuading the tux vendor to hand-deliver a missing jacket for the groom. She never broke a sweat. A wonderful combination of grace and steel.

It was my great fortune to chat with Mary recently after we met on Twitter. (you are on Twitter aren’t you? Yes? Leave your handle in the comments so we can be buddies!) I called to ask about her mentorship program.

I probably don’t have to tell you how difficult it can be to establish a wedding planning business. A million decisions and each one feels like it’s urgent and absolutely crucial. No wonder there are so many new planners with that ‘deer in the headlights look’. Mary’s program offers something I think is pretty incredible. A chance to walk in the shoes of a successful, profitable wedding planner!

You get to see what a day in the office is like, what happens at a rehearsal dinner and the main event- a wedding. Honestly, who wouldn’t want that kind of access?! I can tell you from talking with Mary that she’s so warm, down-to-earth and you’ll feel like you can ask her all your burning questions. This is a wise investment in yourself and your wedding business.

Not ready to make that level of investment yet? I understand; it takes time and confidence to get to the next level. How about starting out with Mary’s book, Wedding Wisdom, a compilation of her advise, insights and experiences over 18 years of practice of wedding planning business and 10 years of a Marriage Family Therapy practice.

Just one more thought about angels… Whether you know it or not, you’re already someone’s nurturing angel. Take the moment to compliment, encourage, challenge and grow those around you. And, remember I’m here to do the same for you.
