Ariella String Trio – lovely wedding close to home!

Well, our second wedding on Saturday was providing background music for awedding breakfast in Stony Stratford, approximately 6 miles from where I live! What a pleasure! The celebrations for John and Mags took place at The Cock Hotel, Stony Stratford The ceremony had taken place at Bletchley Register Office and the newly married couple and their guests moved the celebrations to Stony Stratford.

What is interesting about this Hotel is it’s history.  This historic 15th centurycoaching inn is set in the market town of Stony Stratford. The Cock Hotel rose to national importance as the official staging post for the famous ManchesterFlier, which took a 25-minute stop at The Cock for dinner. Back in the 1700′s the stagecoaches travelling North from london would stop at “The Bull”, whilst those travelling South from Birmingham would stop at “The Cock”

Travellers staying at the Cock Hotel and The Bull opposite, vied with each other in the telling of outrageous ‘tales of the road’, from whence the famous phrase ‘Cock and Bull story’ derives. A story heard at one one day, would “grow” by the next day at the other Inn as they tried to outdo each other.
