Eventually it’s time to get those invitations printed up and mailed. The two main considerations at that point are:
- How many individual components should fall out of the invitation envelope and onto the floor when opened? Current thinking is at least eight, including such things as the rsvp card, directions to the wedding, hotel information, the bride’s registries, local attractions information, a copy of your last grocery list, one page intentionally left blank and, oh yeah, the invitation itself. If you run out of space in the envelope, the invitation is optional.
- When should the invitations be mailed? Way in advance, giving guests a chance to plan their calendars and make arrangements? Or at the last minute, forcing a few people unable to adjust their plans to not attend, but to feel compelled to give a gift? It really does not matter, as most will mess up the rsvp process. Some will send the rsvp cards back blank. Some will say they’ll attend or not attend, but not say who “they” are. Upon followup, some will claim they responded “weeks ago” and then you will get their rsvp cards two days later. So, invitations should be sent out whenever you get around to it. Or put up your flyers at major intersections one week in advance.
