I have some wonderful contacts in the wedding industry with whom I share stories, problem solve and generally rave about how fab it is to be involved in one of the happiest days of a person's life.
That said, I was a little distressed for a close friend of mine who is a wedding planner when I noticed on her facebook page that she was up at 11pm repacking her box of wedding goodies because of an email she had received from a bride. That bride was getting married... THE NEXT DAY.
I think I've mentioned it in just about every blog that I have written. Planning a wedding is stressful, planning a wedding alters your mental state, planning a wedding can make matching napkins a big deal. Planning a wedding can turn a normal, rational woman into a blubbering, emotional rollercoaster ready to drench your clothing in tears or utter such scathing words that sticking your hand onto a hotplate at high temperature would burn less.
BUT are you hiring a mind reader or a wedding industry professional?
As the saying goes forewarned is forearmed and as a couple planning a wedding you need to ensure that any details, small changes and plans are communicated to the relevant people so they can do the best job possible. I have no doubt that there a lot of businesses that deliver minimal service for the prices they charge and have a "don't give a stuff attitude" however I also know a lot of wedding industry professionals, some of my closest
tweeters and
facebook friends who go above and beyond a) because they love what they do and b) because they do a good job.
If you want a rabbit pulled out of a hat at the last minute - hire a magician. Do what's right by the business you are hiring - you will still get magic.
