A Humanist Wedding Ceremony May Be Closer To The 'Real' You

Ever thought you would get this far? You're measuring for the dress, picking out the rings, making decisions on where to enjoy your honeymoon; yes, wedding preparation is a lot of fun, hectic-stress fun, but fun nonetheless, and it seems like everyone around you basks in your joy.

And while the preparation is fun, it is also a time of serious reflection. After all, this service is about you- your life together- and it's about who you are. What you believe in terms of your faith is going to have a big part in it.

Or is it? For some, faith does not play a part in their day-to-day lives. For others, the fact that they come from separate backgrounds has left them with the only consideration that seems right to them; they've decided to forego any religious commitment. Still others are resolved that their spiritual belief is best described as Humanist, and that is what they would like to have highlighted at their wedding.

It is for couples like these that the nonreligious (civil) wedding officiant exists; to promote a civil ceremony that is both dignified and spiritual- without being overtly religious. In fact, such a service may be the very best way to customize your ceremony in ways that would be more limited within a religious environment.

The beauty of working with a celebrant (civil officiant) is that most operate as a small business. Therefore, everything is pretty straightforward. There is no guesswork in the setting of fees, which are often a flat fee based on the type of service rather than by the amount of time. The ceremony is prepared and agreed upon before the service; there is even some choice involved in what the officiant will wear at the ceremony!

In all, a ceremony conducted by a civil wedding officiant would not be for everyone; but for whom it is an option, it is a good way to ensure a special ceremony that is truly a reflection of the 'real' you!
