Many of my brides have asked me how to buy a dress online. Here are a couple of tips to answer any questions a bride may have.
Most brides know their "dress" when she first sees it. If you are on a budget and can't buy from traditional bridal salon, this blog may help you.
First there are many places to purchase affordable dresses. Sample shops, consignment shops, craig's list, online bridal boutiques such as
www.bravobride.com and many other bridal bargin shops online.
Do an online search, search bridal magazines, ads, etc. Now you have found "that" dress and it also fits your budget, and its online.
How do you know what you will look like in it, what size do I need? After all who wants to chance buying the most important dress of your life on just a photo...
Find a bridal boutique that sells "your" dress. Try it on to get an idea of whether it looks as great as you had hoped (and it usually does).
This is a very important step, have an experienced seamstress measure you for that perfect fit. Never try to measure yourself nor assume your street dress size is your wedding dress size. Wedding dresses run smaller than a regular dress.
Ok, so you have your information, you know the dress you want, you have all the correct measurements now you're ready to find a bargin!
Do research, ask for references from online bridal shops. If they are a respectable business, they won't have any trouble providing you with this information.
Allow at least 4 weeks for custom made dresses and alterations. Most bridal saolons can take up to 6 months to customize a bridal gown.
Some of my customers have ordered their dress slightly bigger to allow for any unexpected alterations.
Always reserve a seamstress for last minute unforseen touch up's, alterations, and mishasps before the wedding. You may need it trimmed if you change the shoes you wore from the pair you wore on the day of your fitting.
You always want to have one last fitting with a seamstress, each seamstress has her own timeline for allowing alterations.
I hope this has helped some brides with a buying dresses online.
