4 Top Tips to Survive Quarantine as Newlyweds

You and your partner may have been lucky enough to get married before the pandemic outbreak of coronavirus. Your day worked out perfectly and you’re probably feeling extremely grateful that you’re able to continue the next path as an official married couple.

What you might not have expected is to be completely cooped up with your partner for the next couple of months without being able to leave your home. Whilst it may seem like a dream scenario for some newlyweds in their honeymoon period, it can be a testing time for others.

If you feel that your relationship is already being tested, even at such an early stage, there are methods to consider to help you get through this difficult phase and make you better off when you come out of it.

Help each other get through it emotionally

Considering the circumstances your both in, you and your partner are going to go through a whirlwind of emotions. They may either come in one go or happen in waves, going from one emotion to another.

This will be expected in such a highly stressful and unfamiliar situation. You’re not sure how things will unfold, which is why you should support each other throughout the process. Rather than being blunt with each other, support the situation and be empathetic towards one another.

Be kind and respectful

Feeling irritable and twitchy in stressful situations is understandable. In a normal situation, you can simply walk away from it, but in this case it’s not really possible to.

During quarantine, learn to be kind and caring to your partner and try to lower your defenses and be apologetic. Even if they’re rude to you, show forgiveness. You can control your treatment towards one another, so keep it a goal to treat each other with kindness to prevent high fueled situations.

Develop alternative healthy coping skills

The majority of coping skills that you’re normally accustomed to won’t be available during quarantine - this can be something like going for a walk around the block or driving your car on a long journey.

So, think of alternative coping skills that can be positive to your mood. Yoga, listening to music, reading a book and exercise are all coping mechanisms to get you through it.

Even healthy eating contributes to your mood. Eating heavy carb-loaded foods can make you feel sluggish. How you feel on the inside can portray how you feel on the outside. Incorporating a healthy lifestyle or consuming probiotic supplements to improve your digestive system can contribute to better health.

Use it as an opportunity to spend quality time together

This was probably your planned intention anyway but now you have every reason to enjoy each other’s company. It’s also a great way to learn more about each other if you haven’t done so already in your early stages.

This can help you to build stronger than even and see your relationship blossom even more once you get out of lockdown. Discuss your future plans and anything important that you think will help your relationship to grow.
