4 Tips for How to Select a Wedding Photographer (from a Photog!)

As a newly engaged couple, I believe that you are about to embark on a fabulously exciting journey – one that you will both cherish for the rest of your lives. I'm Bernadette, a professional wedding photographer, and I'd like to share with you what I think are the most important things to consider when selecting a photography vendor. My hope is that you will find this information helpful to you in the planning process. You may also want to check out my Wedding Photography FAQs.

My Top Tips for Selecting a Photographer (even if it's not me!)...

  • Inquire Now and Reserve Early :: There are only a handful of photographers who pursue weddings as a specialty AND as a passion. Then there are probably just a few photographers whose ascetic you enjoy. Plus, our calendars book up quickly! Be sure to make researching and securing a professional photographer one of the very first steps in planning your wedding.
  • Value Quality :: Above all, you should be confident that the photos of your wedding day are of the highest standard of quality. Notice: composition/cropping, exposure/lighting consistency, editing style, and overall skill of crafting a story throughout the day. Be sure to also review the photographer's work in other categories by seeking out their personal and/or art portfolios.
  • Meet In Person :: After you narrow your selection to 2-3 photographers whose work you resonate with, I highly suggest that you meet with each potential photographer, IN PERSON. The celebration of your marriage will be one of the very most important days of your life – you should take just a few minutes to confirm that you are the right fit for each other! Remember, your photographer will be right next to you for every wave of emotion during your day, so if you "feel" uncomfortable with them, then you will certainly "look" uncomfortable in the images.
  • Trust Your Gut :: At the end of the day, make your decision based on who you feel the most confident and comfortable with – image quality and personality wise. After all, you will be spending the whole day together, so you better be having FUN! Learn more about my wedding photography philosophy here.

I hope that helps! :) Happy Planning,
