While some newly married couples look for a leisurely honeymoon lounging on a tropical beach or in a cozy mountain cabin, others decide to make their honeymoon the adventure of a lifetime. From mountain climbing to trekking through Europe to exploring the many wild beasts found in Africa, more and more couples are opting for these types of honeymoons. If you and your significant other decide this type of honeymoon sounds great, here are four destinations to keep in mind for your adventurous honeymoon.
If you’re feeling really adventurous, you and your new spouse can travel to the Himalayas and take a road trip to remember. Using a car, you can travel from Tibet’s capital Lhasa to Nepal’s capital Katmandu. And during your trip, you can stop off at ancient monasteries, see the palaces of the Dalai Lama, and catch a view of the majestic Mt. Everest.
If you’ve got your heart set on honeymooning in the Caribbean, take a scuba diving trip to St. Croix. Once there, you can take scuba diving lessons if needed, then go underwater to explore the largest living coral reef in the area, explore underwater canyons, and get up close and personal with many types of exotic marine life.
For those couples who want to experience the sights and sounds of Africa, take a safari on the Serengeti. One of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa, you can experience lots of adventure in this 12,000 square-mile area with luxury tenting in the Serengeti. If you’re an animal person, you can expect to see large populations of wild lions, as well as see up to 70 large mammal and 500 bird species along the way. By spending some time in Serengeti National Park, your African dream honeymoon will come true.
Yes, you read this right. However, it’s not quite as dangerous as it sounds. If you want to honeymoon in Hawaii, book a hotel room in Maui and then head off to the 10,000 feet-high Haleakala Volcano. Once there, the two of you can rent bicycles and pedal your way down this dormant giant of a mountain, enjoying the beautiful scenery along the way. However, be forewarned that it’s a 38-mile ride, but at least it’s downhill.
No matter which of these destinations you choose for your honeymoon, there’s no doubt you’ll have plenty of stories to tell your family and friends upon your return home.
