Entertaining small children on a wedding day can be challenging. Depending on their age, they may not fully understand what’s going on and may also struggle with the lack of attention they receive. However, have you considered involving them in the day? Not only will this keep them entertained, but it can also add a much-needed dash of cuteness that can make your day even more entertaining.

If you’re stuck for ideas on how to involve your younger ones, read on to find some of our favourite ways to involve children on your wedding day.

Flower Girl or Page Boy

The obvious, and probably the cutest role for little ones to play at a wedding, is the role of flower girl or page boy. This role was actually designed for children, and it’s easy to see why. Flower girls help to set a jovial mood by walking the aisle before the bride. Page boys play a similar role and are often seen holding the bride’s dress as she makes her grand entrance.

For ultimate cuteness, match their outfit to the groom/bridal party so they look like they are one of the gang. There’s no shortage of places selling child-friendly wedding outfits and a quick search around a kids or baby shop will leave your child as the best-dressed wedding guest in the venue.

Ring bearer

Another role that was designed for children is the job of a ring bearer, often tasked with the simple job of carrying the rings down the aisle before handing over to the best man. For an extra addition of cuteness, if you have a pet in the family, why not have your furry friend walk down the aisle with your child as they deliver the all-important rings?

Speech

One of our favourite ways to involve children is to have them deliver a speech to the wedding party, this is one that’s bound to get your guests laughing and is a great way to add a touch of humour to an otherwise serious part of the day.

Depending on the age of your child, they may need a helping hand putting their speech together. It can also be a good idea to let them practice in front of you before the big day to help with any nerves they may have.

Show Guests To Their Seats

Who better to greet your guests than a younger relative all dressed up in their best outfits? If your child is old enough to understand a seating plan, have them greet your guests before showing them to their dedicated seats. If not, have an older relative help them out and take over once your little one has given your guests the biggest of hellos.

Photographer

Kids love playing jobs that are usually provided by adults and the role of wedding photographer could be the perfect way to give them an adult-like job. Why not arm your child with a kids’ camera and send them on their way to capture the biggest moments from your wedding day? You’ll definitely still need a trained photographer to capture those professional shots, but your child’s amateurish efforts will probably give you more of a laugh for years to come.
