Are you prepared to be bowled over by the designer Bridal collections setting the trends for 2013?  Last week the Wedding world turned its eyes towards the New York catwalks for Bridal Fashion Week and I’m bringing you the Bijou trend report.  Lace continues to dominate into 2013 in panel details and all over onslaughts, as does the trend for .  I was pleased to see my prediction that Mermaid shapes would be adopted by Bridal designers came to fruition (read the post from NFW here: New York Fashion Week).  But let’s get to the new and noteworthy.

RED IS THE NEW BLACK

After last year’s bold black take on the Wedding dress this year Red was truly the colour of love.  Vera Wang explained the symbolism of her colour choice ”Boldly romantic, charming, protective, grand, seductive, sexy … A celebration of love.”  The entire Vera Wang 2013 Bridal Collection was a veritable colour chart featuring every shade on the red spectrum from pillar box to .

And it seems Vera Wang wasn’t the only one feeling the love Romona Keveza and Oscar De La Renta also offered up red Wedding dresses as part of their 2012 Bridal Collections.

SPANISH FLAVOUR

Last week I was sharing my thoughts on Jenny Packham’s 2013 collection with its distinctly European flavour well, the New York catwalks seemed to be focused on one country in particular, Spain.  From flamenco frills at Temperley to Spanish Mantillas at Oscar De La Renta, just take a look yourself.

FROTHY FRENZY

The Bridal catwalks were whipped into a frenzy by an array of fine candy floss like skirts and ruffled gowns.

PRETTY PEPLUMS

The high street is at present awash with peplums – they’re being added to everything tops, skirts, dresses and the Bridal designers followed suit at New York Bridal Fashion Week.

Angel Sanchez

And finally my favourite look of New York Bridal Week has to be this Oscar De La Renta number.  I know it’s slightly out there but what a cool idea to wear your Wedding skirt as a cape!
