The 10 Wedding Dresses Trends for Spring 2012
10. Illusion Necklines
The trend of illusion necklines is making a strong comeback .
9. Bolero Jackets
For the past 10 years, bolero jackets was a style one usually saw on mother-of-the-bride dresses. Now the look is back. Both Carolina Herrera and Oscar de la Renta featured lacey, floral bolero jackets in their latest collections.
8. Lingerie-Inspired Bustiers
Some wedding dresses have gotten increasinly sexier over the last couple of years, and the style of lingerie-inspired bustiers is continuing that trend. Monique Lhuillier featured this look strongly in her collection.
7. Optional Ornate Belts
Brides have been wearing colorful sashes and belts with their dress for years, but lately the belts have gotten more elaborate. Anne Barge's 2012 Spring collection was full of gorgeous optional belts that were adorned with pearls, Swarovski crystals and flower petals. You can wear your dress with or without a belt for 2 different looks.
6. Blush Wedding Dresses
While white will never go out of style, adding a touch of color doesn't hurt. Dresses in soft, subtle blush hues took over the runway. From Monique Lhuillier -who dresses Reese Witherspoon in blush for her wedding- to Vera Wang, these dresses are all about making a subtle statement.
5. Cap Sleeves
Another jab to the strapless wedding dress trend is the return of sleeves; cap sleeves, that is. Based on recent runway shows, designers such as Watters and Alvina Valenta are bringing the look back.
4. Large Floral Details
Floral-inspired dresses keep growing in momentum, but lately the flowers seem to be getting larger and larger. Lazaro and Rivini both had designs in their latest collection that boasted large flowers that created a bold, dramatic look.
3. Chantilly and Alencon Laces
Your mother might have been decked in lace for her wedding dress, but now the trend is making a powerful surge back. Celebrity brides such as Ivanka Trump and Nicole Richie both chose lacey looks for their wedding day, and designers like Romona Keveza used it heavily in her collection.
2. Light Silk Fabrics Such as Taffeta and Organza
Light fabrics, such as tulle and organza, are making a huge splash this year. Some recent examples include Christos and LianCarlo's 2012 Spring collection.
1. Crinkle Chiffon Skirts
Wedding dress designers Ines di Santo and Jenny Lee to name a few all featured gorgeous trendsetting designs with crinkle chiffon skirts, creating a new, bold look.

The Colors
Fun and Funky Colours
Some of the hottest new colours for 2012 weddings are, well, hot. Bright, bold, saturated tones are really in right now. Look for colours like hot pink, bright orange, and Kelly green as you’re planning your wedding. You can often balance the visual impact of these choices with deep jewel tones, such as purple, navy, and even the chocolate brown that has been and will remain popular. Of course, one of the best ways to make your colours look fun and funky is to pair up colours that don’t necessarily ‘go’ together. Try hot pink and navy or turquoise and purple for an interesting pop.
Sophisticated Colours
For brides who want a more sophisticated and elegant feel, the colours are dusty and almost a bit old-fashioned. Think dusty pear green, light tangerine, light aqua, and gold. These colours can be paired with interesting new accent colours like grey, chestnut, and beige. Colours like these tend to work well with traditional wedding colours like ivory and can add an interesting element to invitations and decorations.
Pairing Colours
One of the latest and greatest trends for wedding colours is, again, the pairing of colours you wouldn’t normally think of together. In 2009 and 2010, this took the form of chocolate brown or black paired with bright jewel tones, turquoises, and pinks. This trend of dark and light colours together isn’t going away for 2011 and 2012, either.

Bouquets
Ultra-romantic wedding bouquets will pair beautifully with classically-inspired wedding dresses. Soft colors such as ivory or light pink, and big, plush blooms like peonies, will be adorned with details like pearls.
Wedding Food
Grooms cakes are becoming an essential part of the dessert course, going beyond sports-themed treats and becoming nearly as elaborate as the primary wedding cake. Full-on dessert tables will be a trend this year, with smatterings of pies, cupcakes, and other, often homemade, treats.
2012 Wedding themes
Having an overarching theme to your wedding was passé for a little while there, but all-out themes are coming back. You’ll see wine lovers with cork & bottle décor and even wine tastings at the reception; seaside-themes with everything from shell decor to a seafood dinner. Embrace your theme and incorporate it into everything from your wedding invitations and wedding favors.
