Getting the Scoop on Caterers

When choosing a caterer for your wedding, there are some pertinent questions that you must ask, whether your reception venue has exclusive catering rights or you find a stand alone service provider. The food and its presentation at your event is important. How the caterer treats you and your guests is important. What types of service they provide and how they deal with unexpected changes is important. Catering is a large chuck of your budget, so choosing carefully is being smart with your… Continue

Getting along

I work with a lot of different types of vendors - caterers, photographers, videographers, florists, DJ's, etc. Each one has their own style and mode of operation. Sometimes there are creative differences, but for the most part, we are all there to do a job and to help create a wedding day like none other, so we all work together towards this goal. Many times, you become good friends, which only makes the work load light and fun. Every once in a while, though, I run into a vendor that doesn't… Continue

Reception Venues

Choosing a reception venue for your wedding is an important decision. It can involve quite a bit of leg work, a smattering of persuasion and up to half of your overall wedding budget. When selecting a place to hold your wedding reception, you want to pay attention to a few key elements as these will determine the final success of the day. Besides the obvious questions that you will be asking your reception coordinator, here a few that you may not have thought about asking, yet every answer will… Continue

Words of Wisdom

Here are some words of wisdom from the American Academy of Wedding Professionals.

Copyright 2009 Deborah McCoy, all rights reserved.

Today we'd like to talk to you about the right way to ask for gifts. After all, we know it's impolite to include registry information in an engagement party, shower, or wedding invitations. and what's worse is to ask for cash!

The reasoning is this: You cannot dictate to your guests the type of gifts you'd like to have. and it's… Continue

I will say it again

If I have said it before, I will say it again, having a videographer at your wedding is so important if you want to capture the memories that you are making. You have taken months to plan the perfect day - don't you want to capture everything you can?

I love Lance Harding's work. He is a true professional, fun to work with, and a dedicated romantic. Here is one of his videos - they make me cry every time.

Wedding ideas

Thinking out of the box for your wedding is very important if you want to tell your story in a unique and stylized way that stands out from every other wedding. Doing a little homework on the web or visiting area boutiques can yield ideas that you might not have thought of before. Watching fashion trends, reading up on the latest wedding magazines or watching specific television shows about weddings can also give you ideas. Here are some interesting sites for inspiration for your… Continue

Clear Lake Afternoon

I took some time off yesterday and took my parents out to lunch in Clear Lake. It was a belated Father's Day present since we were up to our necks in weddings during the month of June and I missed his day. I had promised them lunch, so I just shut off the cell phones and closed the computer for a day of antiquing, store browsing, cookie munching and seeing the beautiful waters of Clear Lake.

This is also the town where the legendary… Continue

Wearing White

The following is reproduced from the AAWP. It is a great discourse on the bridal white that so many women wear.

Why do brides wear white? We know that white symbolizes purity and virginity-but what's the real reason? The answer dates back to 1840 when Victoria, Queen of England, married her Prince Charming, Albert, in a wedding that set protocol on its ear. The young Queen was only 20 when SHE proposed marriage to Albert. According to the Royal Marriages Act of 1772, all royal… Continue

Some housekeeping rules

For some reason, my blog posting has been down, so in defense of the cyber system, let's hope I am back on track with today's posting!

Here are some housekeeping items that brides will want to take note of:

1. Make sure that all vendors are paid in full prior to your wedding date. We don't like having to hound you on the day of your wedding or calling you after the fact. We really dislike the money issue.

2. Make sure that you bring something to take your left… Continue
