We are living in a very diverse world. The last wedding I attended was for a good friend whose celebration was rich with "non-western” cultural traditions. There were different types of music, food, formal wear, dancing, celebrations and of course, alcohols. At one point the whole dance floor joined in a circle and started some dance routine that I had never seen before and had a blast trying to learn.
During the celebration I was approached by a couple older members of the family… Continue
Do It Yourself or “DIY” is a movement that has been picking up participants for the past several years. From the eco-chic mothers who craft their children’s clothes, to the economically burdened designer who know how to make the thriftyist artistic pieces. Doing things on your own feels good and brings a distinct feeling of satisfaction.
Many brides are bringing this trend into their weddings in interesting and unique ways. From wedding favors, dresses, cakes and music, the list of… Continue
Red is my favorite color. It represents passion, love, romance and is rumored to jump start your appetite too! Sometimes it is used to signify danger, probably because of its close resemblance to fire and our natural fear attached to that. Whatever the reason and whether it is painted on walls, dyed in fabrics or printed in ink, red catches our eye.
When I first saw this design I was struck by the impartial nature of the font. I was trying to define it but its classification eluded… Continue
Alright brides, lets get serious. Unless you are made of steel, you are going to get nervous before your wedding day. I worry for the brides and grooms just going to weddings, let alone actually being in front of all the guests exchanging vows. It is such a big step to join in a lifelong union, so feeling nervous is part of the process.
According to the experts, a little anxiety is a normal thing as your wedding date gets closer. You will almost certainly feel “wedding jitters” at… Continue

I am fascinated by history. How common products were invented, where cultural trends originated from, and why we act in certain ways, are all products of an intense historical interaction that has become the world we know today.
Because I think letterpress is so interesting, I decided I wanted to write a (very) brief historical account of its invention and usage.
One of the most beautiful places to spend a winter vacation is Aspen. If you like mountains, snow, skiing and snowboarding or are a nature lover in general, then you will certainly enjoy Aspen. There are adventures and outdoor activities year round, but I believe that this area truly shines in colder months....
I've been hearing a lot about online meetings, Skype, iChat and video teleconferencing recently. What we are able to do with technology today is astonishing. Over the past couple months rumors circulated that the new iPhone was going to have video chat capabilities. I am not sure if they are true, but they certainly got me excited.
While searching the blog-o-sphere yesterday I stumbled across this site that takes technology to a new location.… Continue
Youtube is one of the amazing inventions of this era. For any of you that are not familiar with the power of this device, simply go to www.youtube.com and search for any video, clip, speech or song you want and most likely there will be 10 million results.
I was looking for videos on printing and I came across this one. While it is a funny advertisement, it illustrates an interesting point. The written word is a powerful thing.
I love technology. Using the internet as a resource to find interesting things has limitless possibilities. Today I was searching for information on green printing ideas and I happened upon this website that calculates the amount of energy you can save just by using recycled paper for your printing needs. It measures the difference between the two types of papers (recycled and non) in terms of trees, wastewater disposal, solid waste… Continue
Bamboo is an important plant in many parts of the world. Bamboos are the fastest growing woody plants in the world, and their economic and cultural significance is very strong in many East and Southeast Asian countries. It is used as a food source for many, a reliable building material and serves as a beautiful addition to any garden.
Representing long life to the Chinese, bamboo is seen as a sign of longevity. A very suitable symbol for a wedding, and what better place to… Continue

Most couples overlook the fact that there are many different ways to write their wedding invitations. Depending on the type of wedding they are planning, the venue or location of the actual ceremony, the wording and etiquette surrounding this subject is very important.
The first thing to know about wording your wedding invitation is remember whatever style or source of information you use to write your invitation, be sure to follow that same pattern throughout your entire set.… Continue
I love this time of the year. The bold summer heat has not yet started and the spring rains are dying down. Northern California is beautiful in May, especially in picturesque Sonoma County wine country. The vineyards are starting to grown again and the hillsides surrounding this area are handsomely covered in rows of grapevines. Birds are chirping and flowers are blooming. This really is an amazing place to live.
If I had to use one word to describe this season it would be green. So… Continue
We are located in the heart of wine country. There are farms everywhere and vineyards line the hilltops. Looking out our windows at work we can see wide grassy fields, tall oak trees and beautiful mountains in the background. It is a beautiful area to live but there are certain consequences that come with this beautiful territory.
Surrounding our building complex is a rather large dairy farm. A couple times a year when the season is right and the wind is blowing there will waft in… Continue
I have never experienced a wedding in the snow. North of the San Francisco bay in wine country it doesn't snow very often (I mean every 10-15 years!). When it does, it's mostly just a thick layer of frost that melts by 9 am. However, I still have spent plenty of time in the snow. I have fond memories of going up to the mountains to snowboard and waking up to see snowflakes frozen on windows. There is something about those crisp, cold mornings that I find… Continue
Everyone today seems to be talking about their carbon footprint. From the cars they drive to the foods they eat, measuring carbon emissions is a growing trend among Americans. Trying to watch our waste has become such a large concern, that I recently discovered a group that focuses on making their clients weddings 100% emission free.
Carbonfund is a nonprofit company that has a very easy calculator anyone can use to find out how many… Continue
Ladies, think back to when you were a little girl. Did you dream about how you wanted your wedding to be when you “grew up?” Chances are that dream has changed a bit, especially in a time when many people are feeling the economic crunch. Maybe you feel like you have to throw away those dreams of a beautiful, elegant wedding because it is too costly. This is just not true.
Here are some ways to reduce the cost of your wedding invitations:
Letterpress wedding invitations are a must have. You can actually feel and see the impression made into the paper, and you can choose from a wide range of paper, including organic, homemade and tree free.
When your guests receive a letterpressed invitation in the mail, it will feel more like a gift than an invitation. While letterpress offers a unique style, feel, depth and beauty that cannot be matched by other printing styles, it comes at an increased cost.
Spring is here again and called me to walk through the orchard and see all of the blossoms on the trees promising new life. The blossoms on the trees symbolize the beginning of new life - just as your marriage is the beginning of a new life with the one you love.
