I agree with Robbie below, I've had more inquiries for weddings closer to the date. I just booked a wedding for March 20th and they are having it at a nice place and have had the date for awhile. She wanted to see if I would fit into her budget.

Really wonderful comments. Brides want to look beautiful and feel beautiful on their special day, but they are also concerned about the welfare of their guests.
Brides I have worked with were considerate of their mate, their parents (particularly) , grandparents, and wedding guests. They go to great lenghts sometimes to assure their comfort. Another thing they really pray for is for the weather to cooperate.

I feel like we as vendors, need to be their mom, their grandma,sister,shrink,and best friend etc. The poor girls get so lost and confused. Sometimes their friends and family, mean to help, but don't, just make it more confusing. So I like to make sure, that they know they can call me ~ and ask me anything, anytime of the days or night. Even if it is 4 am . That is part of my job is my opinion..

I've had brides tell me that they didn't realize a few other options they have when looking for their perfect dress. The options I offer my brides are Designer Replica, Consignment and Rental wedding gowns. You just have to remind them that the label on their designer gown won't be showing and the replica dress is what her guests see, then its ok to save up to 50% off regular retail. When it comes to consignment dresses, I simply ask if they want to have the benefit of closet space. As for rental gowns, when a bride wants a dress for a courthouse wedding they can actually afford one. I even offer an aisle to walk down if they want an alternative to the courthouse. When a bride realizes she can actually save money on her dress and put the money she saves into something she thought she would have to give up it truly makes her day.

An addendum to my earlier comment...brides also need to book well in advance. I've had severaly inquiries with dates set, finally make a decision a few months prior to the event, contact me & if I'm booked (which thankfully is happening) they get abit miffed with me because I didnt hold the date for them. At the intitial consult, I stress to them the importance of deposits holding reservations (and not just with me but with other vendors) but that part seems to slip by them. I understand budgets, $$, etc but I dont think they understand the urgency behind deposits. I'm trying to educate the world :)

I find brides need to be educated about weddings in general. They haven't the slightest idea on how to plan their weddings. There are many, many "How To" books in every bookstore in the country, but very few are really reading them. If brides wish to save on major expenses, let them hold their wedding reception between 1 pm to 5 pm. This time frame allows for the bride to only offer guests drinks and a buffet of :finger foods" and cake. A full buffet or sit down meal is not required. Have them check a wedding etiquette book for the proper information. In addition, if they are really on a "tight budget", suggest using a military veterans organization's club,, like the VFW or the American Legion. They have their own kitchens for heating food, large refrigerators, freezers, and ample parking space and rest rooms and their bar is half the cost of any venue or night club. As long as someone is a veteran, active duty military or a member of their organization. Sometimes the rental of the room is "FREE" to the veteran. If they do charge a fee, it's usually under $200.00 dollars. (you must clean-up after the reception.) Also, I have performed their ceremony on the stage at these halls. An average cost for a wedding with 125 guests with a full buffet to include everything, including the D.J. can be around $3,000.00 dollars. You just need to do some price shopping for the catering or do-it-yourself, have a friend do the photography and another run the music (instead of a D.J.) and you will certainly have your wedding be very in-expensive. The Officiant's fee can also fit within the overall cost mentioned herein. You really don't need a fancy venue.

Thanks Christine for asking people not to blatently promote their products. That was getting quite frustrating.

Price is certainly a concern. I also have to agree with Adrienne that t service is starting to become more and more imporant, as couples want to make sure they are receiving value for the money they are spending.

Lastly, I've been asked about up-lighting lately.
