I am a cruise wedding specialist in the Cayman Islands. 80% of my business is from cruise weddings. Brides in this economy often want a simple, elegant, and personalized wedding without all the extras. I have had to find ways to save them money. without sacrificing the experience of a Caribbean Destination Wedding. This forces me to be more creative in finding savings I can pass on to my brides eg this week my husband and I are making a portable chuppah we can take to the beach, or a garden setting. Along with other vendors in this group, I would find that budget is a key concern. My brides look for excellent quality at an affordable price. And they are also looking for good communication and customer service from their suppliers.

My insight into what i hear from my brides is that they can't find what they are looking for, they want more, they need more than what they are finding, in that they want the looks they see in all the mags, but for a price they can afford. This makes perfect sense, thy want all the chic without the price, and quite frankly where i live there are no other planners that offer the style and unique qualities that i bring in! I bring an Edge and a Chic that forms to make a fabulous event, something they have never seen here, and they really appreciate and respond to that, as well, i design and create all aspects of their wedding so i am able to really bring "them" into the wedding which really creates a one-of-a kind event that really leaves everyone talking, but i really pay attention to those that have a strict budget and since i have such a background in design and creativity it really helps with the DIY projects which really helps keep their prices down and i offer all my wholesale prices to my brides which is a huge savings, something else i point out to them is the fact that by hiring me they actually save my fee, because i can save them my fee and then some just by my contacts with vendors, venues, doing all the leg work, my wholesale prices, etc. They can't afford not to hire me! Hope this was beneficial!

What I have been hearing from brides is that they need Wedding Planners and Event Planners to listen and understand what they what and need. Communication is key.

...I have really found over the past year, with my brides to be, that concerns regarding their budget are really foremost in their minds....due to the recession, they are naturally very concerned about getting the best service (ie makeup/photgraphy/wedding planning) for the best possible price....so if we offer very good incentives and discounts(eg 2 for 1 offers etc) which they cannot get elsewhere, this would be extremely attractive..:)

Alright, lets get real.

Seems like many couples are working on tight budgets because of the economy. The good news is that creative solutions are are at all time high. Budget doesn't equal cheap, it means we can suggest cool ideas that make their day special and unique. With 18 years of weddings under my belt I am able to suggest a wide variety of ideas that are not just photo related. Clients are happy to hear about different approaches within their budget. According to our poll 30% of brides do not plan on hiring a wedding planner, however 39% do plan on hiring a day of coordinator.

Yes, I agree..it is imperative to make a person feel good about using your services. They can spend their money anywhere..it is truly a privilege to have consumers choose you over the competitors. Without our clients, our businesses mean nothing. If you give great service and quality products they will be clients for life. I apply those same feelings when I choose to use the services of others. I don't mind paying extra because I know I am being treated with appreciation.

@Lisa and @Chitra: I totally agree. The easiest clients to book have been the couples I contacted within hours of hearing from them. In all respects, I want to treat clients like I prefer to be treated myself!
