As a calligrapher, I am often asked to create seating arrangements, be it place cards, escort cards, or the more modern and popular seating chart. However, I have seen an idea in a bridal magazine as well as online, that is an excellent idea for removing the paper aspect of this task by creating something that is used over and over. This is definitely a green way to do the seating at your event. As your guests will only need to know their seats for one night, why not use the very fun idea of a chalkboard seating chart?

I plan to create a beautiful chalkboard that is painted around the edges in elegant swirls and perhaps even add some lovely bridal touches such as flat back pearls and rhinestones to dress it up. The chalkboard can be rented and each couple's guests' names written on it by me in a calligraphy font (or do it yourself!) in chalk in colors that match the wedding scheme. Simply return the chalkboard when the event is over so that it can be used by the next client!
This is just one small way of going green for your wedding. You can create your own version by painting a large framed image/glass/mirror/masonite, etc. with chalkboard paint, available in the paint section at your Home Depot, Lowe's or your local paint store.
