Here is another two cents worth of comment, I think weddings directed and primarily created by the bride and groom, they are about what you want to walk away with and what you hope your guests will walk away with. My son just recently got married, both he an dhis bride were in their mid thirties and already had pots, pans, toasters. etc. They wanted money for their honeymoon, online they had a site that broke down very cleverly broke down where you could contribute. The Bride wanted a great gown for the moment and to look back on and remember that day, as well as perhaps to pass on, this was an item worth investing in, food had to be OK, it's memory value was limited. Have your vey best fun loving friends to dance laugh and energize the moment. Great flowers not as important as a great band, and so it went, from me they got a contribution to the honeymoon, I could even see where they were going, I drew a really great high fashion portrait of both of them, they liked the idea of something more personal than a photo. So, invest in what will last in fact and in memory and reduce the moment, food, flowers, etc., or whatever matters most to you.

The Day I Marry, you're welcome and may I add you are a most gracious wedding planner. All the best. Good luck here in Florida. Let me know if there is anything I can help you with in the Orlando area.

Thanks Linda! I wish I had told them at the time to appease the disgruntled guests with a small traditional gift registry! But I will know for next time...if it comes up again.

To The Day I Marry,
I see your dilemma and really you are to be commended by trying to be so helpful and diplomatically offer the couple's suggestion. In this instance (registry-wise) they should still register with just a few items or gift certificates from a store and ADD the honeymoon gift option. That would satisfy both. Yes, some people are horrified when the registry becomes monetary based.
These are the wedding traditionalists that really feel they are in the right by following the Emily Post rules. So be it. Good luck ! Personally, I see nothing wrong with offering both but etiquette-wise traditionally weddings were a gifting event. (I do believe Gift Certificates towards Registry items are perfectly acceptable, though)
