What are the Pros/Cons of "Co-op Advertising"?

Good Day,

I just stumbled upon this concept "Co-op adversting" and before I dive into it, i wanted to get some feedback from people that have done it before.  So what's the 411?

I been thinking of a strategy for affordable advertising to target Brides & Wedding Planners.  Right now we advertise with theknot.com (very expensive and for us lacks resulting in poor return on investment), gigmasters.com (great affordable and strong leads), and direct marketing.  I have a Caribbean SteelDrum Band in the Wash, DC area.  We do social media and Blog at CAISO SteelDrum Blog.

We are looking for new effective ways to advertise our services; we think "co-op adversting may be the answer.  What do you think?
