A One of a Kind Marketing Idea: Host a Limo Wedding Planning Party!
By Debbie Tobias
One of the most original marketing ideas that I've ever heard of came from Cho Phillips, Executive Director of the Wedding Planning Institute, an organization dedicated to certifying wedding planners.
The idea is to host a Limo Wedding Planning Party--A mobile wedding planning seminar on wheels!
The concept is this: A limo takes a party of engaged couples, who are planning a local wedding, around town to meet a hand-picked list of wonderful area professional wedding vendors. The number of couples that can participate is determined by the capacity of the limo.
Each stop on the tour includes a mini info session or demo at each vendor location with each couple taking away a 'goodie' or a free sample provided by the vendor. So for example, a florist might showcase a series of reception centerpiece ideas and then provide each bride with a small bouquet to take home. A bakery might provide tasty samples of their top wedding cake flavors and fillings and then send each couple home with a miniature, decorated cake. You get the idea.
For couples this is a fun and exciting way to plan their big day. Who wouldn't want to be driven around in a limousine and treated like royalty?
For participating wedding professionals/vendors, this is a great marketing opportunity. It shouldn't be difficult to get them to donate their time and a few samples since it is almost guaranteed that the couples will want to do business with them.
The first vendor you need to secure is the transportation/limo company, as this will determine the date and time of the event, and how many couples can participate. The entire event shouldn't take more than 3 hours (including the individual vendor stops). A smart limo company owner will see the marketing value in your limo wedding planning party and will likely agree to provide a vehicle at no cost to you.
And as for you, the clever wedding planner that pulls all of this together, you get to use this opportunity to promote your services, with an emphasis on your 'day-of' package. As you travel to the various vendor locations, it's your job to play host[ess] with the mostess by sharing valuable tips, trivia and encouraging couples to share whatever planning issues are on their minds.
Keep in mind that this promotion requires extensive preparation on your part. In order for this event to be a success, you must work with local vendors beforehand and create a very detailed schedule because of all the stops that are part of the tour. Again, a top-notch limo company is a must.
This is a fantastic opportunity to get your local media on board. It's a great photo op--a wedding planning seminar on wheels?! How original!
Get your preferred vendors to help you promote the event to their customers or why not hold a contest (team up with a local TV station, perhaps) where the winners get to be lucky guests on this moving wedding planning tour around town?
But you must start your planning now!
Hosting a limo wedding planning party is different, fresh, and is sure to capture the attention of everyone (your competition included) around you. Let me know how yours works out.
