I know photographers, videographers, and even dj's display their cards at the wedding reception.
Do you display your cards at the bar or wait for guests to approach you for one?
If you display at the bar, do you generate a lot of business?
Please give pros and cons. Thank-you!

I never display my cards but will hand one out if someone specifically asks for it. I think it is very tacky for d.j. or photographers to put out business cards at the guest tables. Actually, that happened to one of my brides and she was very upset and asked me to remove the musician cards immediately. Her comment was "my wedding is not an evening of advertising".
As the wedding planner you will be coordinating the day's events so sometimes you will probably be mentioned in the ceremony hand book and most times the couple will thank you at the reception. That would be enough for me.
I agree about displaying cards being tacky.
If you provide outstanding service... they will ask you directly ;)
Hi Julie ,
I never display my company business cards at an event however my team members and myself do keep a few in our pockets or close at hand in case someone asks us for one.
As a wedding guest who's engaged, I don't find it tacky. In fact I'm happy to get in contact with the vendor if they did a good job, because I might want to hire them myself and it makes it easy. Just don't spread cards out on the dinner table or anything obvious like that. Keep it simple and understated, like a little bowl on the bar or favors table.
