a wedding planner would be definitly helpful, but people like DIY, too
people like DIY until they realize just how much work it really is to pull it off! Its the one time (hopefully!) that you will have a special event like this and the mantra should always be - the budget the budget the budget - its the driver for everything. Think of it like this - do you want to pull your teeth yourself or go to the dentist? Naturally you want to go to the dentist because they are the professionals. Its the same with planners - granted not all planners are created equally but the right planner for the right bride is out there - trust me. When the planner is in sync with the bride and vice versa, it makes for beautiful music and a happy, glowing, unexhausted from trying to do it all herself thinking its easy and saves her money but really doesn't, bride.
As a Sonoma wedding photographer I love when the couple hires a wedding planner. This keeps the day on schedule and takes a lot of responsibility off of my shoulders to make sure things are moving along. I think my clients also enjoy having a planner, as they take a lot of worry off of the couple when they just want to be having fun.

Most certainly I find wedding planners useful. It is always better to have the services of an experienced professional instead of taking pains of DIY. It's same if you decided to design your own house instead of using an architect. One may get the aesthetics right, but the technical.. may be not. And since weddings don't have retakes, I would rather hire a professional then try and do it by myself.
A wise man can tell you that Wedding Planners can be useful or can destroy the cherries memories from the first day of a new couple.

I Do not recommend Bride and Groom to ask Wedding Planners for Band Musician, for Photographer or Cameraman.
So, I recommend to work with wedding planners for some services, and to chose by their feelings photographer, cameraman, musicians.

Compared to services such as photographer, videographer, transport, flowers, the cost of a wedding planner can be less than for the others, but can be invaluable on the day to bring the whole event together, to ensure everything runs smoothly, to check all the details, to help with those little last minute things, to assist the guests! A wedding planner wears 'many hats' , from making sure the ceremony starts and everyone is in the right place, to assisting a little bridesmaid who has fallen over. Many brides want to remain in control and do everything themselves, this is such a big mistake - it means they can't relax and enjoy the most important event of their lives. It can be hard to hand over to another person, but honestly in my experience - we can literally 'save the day'.
