Designer gown or bargain gown?

Be very careful if you are considering buying on-line. I have a client now that did just that. The dress was ordered on-line from China. There is a 4 1/4 in GAP at the top of the zipper. The wedding is in two weeks and I did create a solution to this otherwise catastrophe! My client should have at least had a professional measure her. Be cautious!

Definitely don't buy online, your wedding dress is something you must be able to try on and see how it looks on you. There are several samples sales through the year, so that any bride can't get a designer wedding dress for as much as 75% off. Websites such a previously owned wedding dresses is another resource where you can get designer wedding dressess for cheap.

Hi Rachel,
Well, you have to think about a lot of things, I think. First of all, you don't want to stress yourself if you are going over your budget, or your parents budget. Remember, they want to give you a beautiful wedding, but they don't want to go broke! Then think about weddings you've been to. Do you remember every detail of the dress, or just the fun and excitement of the day? You can find designer dresses online and at a much reduced price. Probably not a Vera Wang, but some great designers like Bonny, Mia Solano, Private Label by G, Eden Bridal, Victoria Bridals and Ella Rose. Probably a good idea is to find a gown you think you'd like and then look for a similar gown online. May save you lots of money and give you a dress you'd love. Either way, remember you'll be thinking about that guy and your new life together, not if you had a designer dress!! Hope you find exactly what you want.

Hi -First off I like to say congratulations.

I have ideas on what I think on bridal gowns vs bargain. Im a makeup/hairstylist. I know gown on their style/name only because I'm so into this wedding business and i may be a possibly future bride next year (talking about it)
anyway, as anyone would want quality also besides a bargain. There are designers that have nice dresses that are not expensive at all and look very nice and elegant. I dont know what style you like or want here are a few name brands that are very nice that you can look for online and then go to the store and try them on.

I do not recommend you buy anything online, its not the same as you try it on. Measurements have to be taken in by the seamstress of the store which is better than getting something online and paying $$$ to get it fixed. I know this because one of my last brides I did bought their dress online and paid $$$ to get it fixed was extremely stressed out.

the name brands of dresses are: maggie sottero, marys bridal casablanca, and privatelabelbyg.
These name brands have very gorgeous dresses at affordable price. You are getting a designer dress at affordable price + quality.

Check them outline and sese what styles you like and then go to your local bridal shop store and try them on.

I would not focus on designer vs bargain. In my experience, most brides choose a wedding dress based on style, fabric, price, etc. It's not until a bride finds "the dress" when she asks about who makes it. It sounds like you have already done some research so find styles you like, try them on and see what fits into your budget. We have brides that find their perfect wedding dress for $299, we also have brides who find their perfect wedding dress for $5000.

Regarding purchasing a wedding dress online. If you order from an authorized dealer, the merchandise will be the same whether you purchase from a retail store or via a website. At the Wedding Shoppe a majority of our brides purchase through our retail store, however we have a percentage of brides who prefer to purchase online for various reasons including convenience, price, our online return policy and often times they have a larger selection with our online store. Buying online from a Resale site like Smartbride or Recycledbride or a Vintage Dealer is one thing and usually a good deal that also gives you recourse if it doesn't work out.
Buying anything from the Made in China ripoff houses is another: they are literally putting US stores and designers out of business and US Customs is now seizing their shipments. I get at least a call a month from a teary girl who got her Chinese dress and it's a mess, doesn't fit, wrong color, etc. The companies almost never respond once it's sent and the bride is out her money. Because it WAS sent, Paypal may not refund.
Nothing can replace the experience and value of having a real fitting!

SEAMS, you are so very right about the Made in China ripoffs. My client had ordered hers from one of them and it COULD have been a disaster for her wedding. Luckily I was able to create an alternative closing feature to compensate for the shoddy construction! She was grateful to have had the referral of me........

agreed with everyone else, buying a bargain gown is a very good idea, however i dont not suggest buying it online. You dont get that wow feeling from window-shopping online, you have to try it on and see how it feels and looks. No matter what the price-tag is, how you feel in it, is the most important thing!

I had the same question 4 years ago when I got engaged to my husband, long story short, that is why I created Milad Bridal Boutique, a high-end consignment, resale and rental shop so that brides have options to get a great designer dress for a bargin. I wanted to rent a designer wedding gown, and I didn't want my bridesmaids to pay $250 or more for a nice bridesmaid dress they would wear only once...after all, I wouldnt want them to ask me to do the same, we are in stuggling economy and I just didnt think it would be fair, or reasonable. I am in Houston, and have all the dresses online and you can also come in and try them on. There are more of the same concept emerging around the country, check them out first before you have to compromise your style vs. price!
